Case study · Kapu Creations

Giving Kapu Creations a store of its own

Kapu Creations is my own handmade shop. In 2026 I gave it an IndieMade store at its own domain, next to the Etsy shop, which kept selling the whole time. It's the same setup I do for clients, so here's what it shows.

What it proves: the listings come over clean, the Etsy sync keeps working, and the store can look like the maker. What it doesn't claim: sales figures. I don't publish those, and I won't promise you a sales lift.

01 Listings and reviews

Everything that mattered came over

  • All 15 live Etsy listings came over with their prices, photos and variations, and stock mirrored from Etsy.

  • Inventory stays in step between Etsy and the store, so a sale on either side updates the other.

  • 163 Etsy reviews now live on the store.

  • On September 6, 2026 the store went live at its own domain with secure checkout, card payments, live shipping rates and analytics.

  • The Etsy shop kept selling the whole time.

02 The fee math

The fee math

Here's a worked example with a made-up volume. Picture a shop doing 30 orders a month at $50 each including shipping, so $1,500 a month. This is what the platform takes.

On Etsy (US published rates, October 2026)RatePer month
Listing and renewals$0.20 per sale$6.00
Transaction fee6.5% of item plus shipping$97.50
Payment processing3% plus $0.25 per order$52.50
Total$156.00, about 10.4%
If 1 in 5 orders comes through Offsite Ads (required at this volume, since the shop clears $10,000 a year)12% of those ordersplus $36.00
On your own IndieMade storeRatePer month
IndieMade Essential planflat$15.00 ($12 billed annually)
Card processing (Stripe's standard US rate)2.9% plus $0.30 per order$52.50
Total$67.50, about 4.5%

Per $50 order, that's about $5.20 in fees on Etsy and about $2.25 on your own store. This is fees on the same orders. Etsy also brings you shoppers, which is why I recommend keeping both running. Fees change, so check Etsy's fee page for current numbers.

03 Custom design

The store looks like the maker, not the platform.

04 Your Etsy shop stays safe

How I keep your Etsy shop untouched

  • Only stock counts sync between the two shops. Your Etsy photos, titles and descriptions are never rewritten from the new store.

  • Before I connect anything, I take a full snapshot of your Etsy listings, so if anything ever looks wrong it can be put back exactly as it was.

  • Your Etsy shop stays open and selling the whole time. The new store goes live alongside it, not in place of it.

That's how Kapu was set up, and it's how I set up every client's store.
